Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital Celebrates 100th Anniversary
Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital (MWPH), a leader in pediatric care for more than 100 years, has officially kicked off its centennial year. The post-acute hospital, a jointly owned affiliate of The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) and Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM), is a trusted provider of family-focused, coordinated care to all children, including those with serious, chronic, and complex medical conditions.

A Spoonful of Storybook Celebration
Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital’s (MWPH) annual Storybook Gala took a different, yet successful, form this year due to the pandemic. On November 19-21, “A Spoonful of Storybook Celebration” provided a virtual event to supporters in the community, which included a silent auction, raffle and livestreaming dance party with nationally-known DJ Kopec. A large crowd of supporters participated in the three-day event which raised more than $390,000 (net) for the hospital.

Universal Exercise Unit Therapy
Universal Exercise Unit (Spider Cage) Therapy is provided in our Ability Center. The unit is a three sided wire walled space that allows a therapist to use a variety of bungees, belts, pulleys and/or weights to provide individually determined support and strengthening.

Developmental Delays
Developmental delay occurs when the child has not met developmental milestones by the expected time period. Evaluations are performed by pediatric physiatrists and/or rehabilitation therapists at Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital.

Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy refers to any one of a number of neurological or movement disorders that do not worsen over time but do permanently affect body movement and muscle control. The disorders appear in infancy or early childhood. Although cerebral palsy affects muscle movement, it is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain and/or spinal cord that control motor movement.
